Mareeba - Raf

We got to Mareeba and we had planned to stay at Rohan’s house. We met Rohan at Lowood where he took us on a boat ride, the boat name was the Zin.

First, we decided to explore Mareeba, we drove to waterfalls called Barron falls, then we drove to Cairns and had sushi.

We then met Jake, Rohan’s son, Jake took part of the MacDonald’s fun run called the Wheelbarrow Race and he also plays basketball so after a long day we went to bed.

One evening we went to see Jake play basketball. Jake was brilliant, he had done the wheel barrow race and played basketball, a tough day for Jake, we took some photos. While we were there it was starting to rain and got cold, so we left and when we got home Rohan said we could have a warm shower. We did so and went to sleep.

We did a day trip and went to different beaches, Palm cove, Port Douglas and on the way back to Mareeba we went to a Mexican Restaurant that had big burgers.

Dad planned a trip to Cape Tribulation to test our new tent. Three-hour drive to Cape, time passed quickly and finally we got there. We set up tent and we were very excited because we hadn’t used the tent before, it was new but then DISASTER STRUCK! It started raining hard and water started leaking into the tent so then we had to pay for a cabin and left the tent in the rain. Back in Mareeba dad bought some poles to make the tent stronger and we got ready for our trip to Cape York.

After Cape York we wanted to visit the Great Barrier Reef. We jumped on a boat and went to Green Island. When we got there, we got our snorkelling gear and jumped on a smaller boat and went to the reef. I wore a life jacket, when I got in it was very cold. The first thing I saw was a big fish with brown eyes then Josh said there was a turtle, I went over, and it was a big one. After snorkelling we went exploring on Green Island, we ate some snacks and played on the beach. Had an amazing time.
